Street Science are hosting a 10 day event again at this years EKKA, with an exhibit on Soil Science and our ever popular demonstrations each day! We are partnering up with some fantastic organisations, QUT, BSSC, ESKITIS, Robogals, Young Engineers, STEM Punks, and the Australian Soil Society to bring some fantastic hands on activities, an opportunity to chat to scientists and researchers and celebrate National Science Week at the EKKA!
You can find us in the Agricultural Hall, where participants will explore the static and hands-on activities provided to gather data relevant to soil health and therefore the health of agricultural crops. This involves investigating: – Soil Testing including hands-on analysis and secondary data analysis looking into: o Abiotic Factors: Soil Drainage Soil pH Nutrient Levels Soil Texture o Biotic Factors Soil Community • Ants / Worms / Microbes – Comparing Australian Soil Types to Australian Crops and where certain plants will grow best. Once participants have worked their way through the exhibit, they will have enough information to complete a basic data sheet and solve our Agriculture / Soil based dilemma. Students / Families can record their answer and enter a competition as they leave the space to win cool prizes.
Come along and participate in some seriously fun science activities and watch hourly demonstrations from the Street Science team each day too!
